PARENT FAQ SECTION
Is this therapy?
No. The Mindset Lab is not therapy, counselling, or an assessment. It is a play-based program where kids practice emotional regulation, focus, problem-solving, and confidence through movement, games, and guided activities.
Does my child need a diagnosis to attend?
No diagnosis is required. The Mindset Lab is designed for all kids and teens, including neurodivergent children and those who simply benefit from extra practice with life skills.
What kinds of kids do best in The Mindset Lab?
The Mindset Lab works well for kids who:
-
Have big emotions
-
Struggle with focus or follow-through
-
Get overwhelmed or frustrated easily
-
Lack confidence in groups
-
Are bright and capable but need more support practicing skills
Many kids attend as enrichment. Others attend because daily life feels hard right now.
Both are welcome.
What does a typical session look like?
Each session includes:
-
Movement to help regulate the body and brain
-
Fun games & challenges that practice focus, flexibility, and self-control
-
Teamwork and problem-solving activities
-
Guided reflection to help kids notice what worked
Kids learn by doing, not by sitting or listening to lectures.
Will my child be forced to talk or participate?
No. Participation is encouraged, but never forced. We meet kids where they are and support them at their own pace.
Is this a drop-off program?
Yes. The Mindset Lab is a drop-off program. Parents are welcome to reach out if they have questions, but sessions are designed for kids to participate independently unless an aide is required.
How long is the commitment?
Programs run in 9-week cycles with a clear start and end date.
Families may register for one or two days per week, depending on availability and preference.
What if my child struggles in group settings?
Many kids who struggle in groups do very well in The Mindset Lab. Groups are small, supportive, and structured. If your child needs more individualized support, we can also discuss one-to-one sessions.
How is this different from sports or tutoring?
Sports and tutoring focus on performance or academic skills. The Mindset Lab focuses on how kids think, feel, and respond, the skills that help them succeed in school, sports, friendships, and daily life.
What results should I expect?
Every child is different. Over time, parents often notice:
-
Fewer emotional meltdowns or shutdowns
-
Improved ability to pause and reset
-
Better focus and follow-through
-
Increased confidence and willingness to try
-
Growth happens through practice over time, not overnight fixes.
What if we’re not sure this is the right fit?
That is okay. You are welcome to reach out with questions before registering, or start with one day per week to see how it feels. There is no pressure to commit beyond the program cycle.
Is financial support available?
Yes. Pricing discounts are available through the Cochrane Connect Card for eligible families. Programs like these are often also covered under Wellness spending through company benefits.
How do I know where my child fits best?
Age groupings are based on developmental stage, not just age. If you are unsure, we are happy to help you decide what group makes the most sense for your child.
Still unsure where to start? We're happy to help you decide what will best support your child right now.
